Cefn Gunthly and Heath Mynd

Description as per May 2015

A nice little walk, no crowds, two short sharp climbs. No stiles, a few gates. Fantastic views. Sheep and cattle!

Park off the tiny little road, just past The Hollies (farm) on the other side of the gate. Heath Mynd rises up before you, behind the old information sign) but first take the track along the fence line. The track splits but go straight on, through the gate (the return leg will take you along the right hand track to the top of Heath Mynd).

DSC01553 (Copy)Keep on the track as it curves round, following the hedge line. You will pass a not very friendly ‘Private property’ sign as you skirt one of the access drives from Linley Hall. On your left a (once stunning) derelict cottage. Follow the track up, right past it’s (fallen-in) door. Go through the gap in the trees and the track will curve round to the left as you start to climb the spine of the hill.DSC01559 (Copy)

Go over the summit (after taking in the amazing views  incl Corndon, the Stiperstones, Nipstone, Black Rhadley, Linley Hill, the Long Mynd…) in a straight-on direction and you will come to a fence line with a metal field gate at the top. Go through it and then head down hill to where the path you came up on forked. You will now take the (original) right hand fork (now on your left) and skirt roun the base of Heath Mynd. When the mood takes you turn up hill and climb the to summit.

DSC01596 (Copy)There are no paths up and down Cefn Gunthly and Heath Mynd as such, it is access land so observe the rules re dogs etc.

When you have had enough of the views head down the other side of the hill and back to the car. Its only about 4 miles but because of the two sharp climbs and stunning views from both hills, its a real satisfying little walk.

Here is a little map of this walk.
